Poster presented at the 1st Conference and Exhibition on Biomass for Energy, Industry and Climate Change Protection, Sevilla,  June 2000.

Full title: Feasibility of Biological Hydrogen Production from Biomass for Utilization in Fuel Cells
Authors: P.A.M. Claassen, J.W. van Groenestijn, A.J.H. Janssen, E.W.J. van Niel, R.H. Wijffels

This poster addresses hydrogen production from biomass by a two step fermentation process according to the following reactions:
glucose -----> 4 H2 + 2 CO2 + 2 acetate (1)
2 acetate -----> 8 H2 + 4 CO2 (2)
(1) With thermophiles Thermotoga elfii or Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus
(2) With photoheterotroph Rhodopseudomonas spp.
A cost estimate has been made for investment costs for a complete bioprocess.
