On October 22 and 23, 2008, HYVOLUTION was present at the H2Expo. The HYVOLUTION booth was visited by many people mainly from industries. They were interested in the possibilities to produce pure hydrogen from biomass.

Some examples of questions at the booth were “what kind of biomass is best suited?”, “what is the advantage of thermophilic fermentation?” and “when do you expect to have the prototype ready?”. Many visitors were surprised that hydrogen fermentation using biomass is already possible. They encouraged the HYVOLUTION team to continue the research because it appears necessary that hydrogen is produced from renewable sources. Some visitors also brought in new ideas that could be added to the HYVOLUTION objectives and they offered their collaboration. A number of companies joined the Industrial Interest Group during the H2Expo.

Besides the booth two presentations were given at the International Conference, one by the project coordinator Pieternel Claassen and one by Mattias Ljunggren. During the afternoon of the second day an Industry Workshop was organized. The workshop was attended by 14 persons, from different countries. Fruitful discussions led to the conclusion that there is a future for hydrogen from biomass and that the most important issue is the cost aspect. The most promising application is in fuel cells.
